Business Journal: 158-room hotel planned for Third Ward

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6's news partners at the Milwaukee Business Journal have reported Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants plans to build a 158-room hotel on a Third Ward parking lot owned by the developer that is also building the downtown Milwaukee Marriott.

The eight-story hotel, expected to open in 2015, would be built on the northeast corner of Broadway and East Chicago Street in downtown Milwaukee.

The project is expected to be a boutique hotel that would have a rooftop bar with a ground-floor restaurant.

Kimpton operates 58 hotels and 67 restaurants, but has no presence in Milwaukee.

The Kimpton hotel joins a rush of new hotel under construction in Milwaukee that has raised concerns from existing hotel owners.

The 200-room downtown Marriott is being built on North Milwaukee Street, Gorman & Co. Inc.’s 90-room hotel in the former Pabst Brewery is to open this spring, and the 127-room Hilton Garden Inn on North Broadway opened in November.
