Teen injured in crash near Sherman/Fairmount fighting for his life

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 16-year-old James Jones was injured in a crash involving two vehicles that occurred on February 21st near Sherman and Fairmount Ave. on the city's north side. As Jones remains in the hospital, his parents spoke with FOX6 News about how they hope the public can help provide information that could solve this case.

The wreck happened around 3:45 p.m. Three people were trapped inside one of the vehicles in the crash. Two of them were taken to Froedtert Hospital for treatment. The third person was sent to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

"A car came and cut them off and they tried to stop and skidded on ice and went into oncoming traffic and hit another vehicle head on," Jones' parents told FOX6 News.

Sharita Williams and Melvin Jones Sr. fought back tears while describing the crash that injured their son.

"James is in there fighting for his life. He's suffering brain injuries. His nose is broke. His lungs are bruised and chest is bruised. At this point we don't know which way it should go," Jones' parents said.

Jones' family said they feel even more emotion because they don't know exactly how the accident happened. They say the car that did the cutting off fled the scene.

"This person, either he or she maybe needs to come forward and take responsibility for this because there`s a lot of hurting people. I just want to know if anybody seen or heard anything that could help shed some light that could ease my mind just a little," Jones' parents said.
