Three-alarm fire reported at UW-Madison Medical Science Center

MADISON (WITI) -- Madison fire crews responded to the scene of a building alarm fire at the Medical Sciences Building on the UW-Madison campus shortly after 8:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28th.

Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke from the roof of the building. Authorities say due to the location, age and size of the structure, a third alarm was called.

According to fire officials, fire damage was confined to a small area on the fourth floor of the building, however, smoke damage spread to multiple floors.

Firefighters performed overhaul to ensure there was no extension into walls or ceilings. Crews remained on scene to ventilate the smoke for several hours after the fire was extinguished.

No injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.

No damage estimate is available -- and the cause remains under investigation.
