24-year-old man charged for stealing Range Rover

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- 25-year-old Javier Hernandez is facing one count of operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent. This, after he allegedly stole a Range Rover from a Kwik Trip in Mount Pleasant.

According to the criminal complaint, Hernandez allegedly stole a 2005 Range Rover from the Kwik Trip on Durand Avenue in Mount Pleasant in the early morning hours of Friday, March 1st.

Following the incident, police say some customers followed the vehicle and relayed to police Hernandez's location.  The vehicle was eventually stopped by Kenosha Sheriff’s Department and Kenosha City Police units at Highway 158 and 68th in Kenosha.

According to police,  Hernandez identified himself only verbally as Paco Guerrerro and claimed he was from Mexico City. Hernandez's fingerprints were sent from Mount Pleasant Police to the FBI for assistance in a positive identification after the suspect claimed he was only in the United States for three weeks. According to police, the fingerprints identified a Javier Hernandez.

During the investigation, police discovered that the vehicle Hernandez possibly drove to the Kwik Trip prior to stealing the Range Rover was also reported stolen from Bensenville, Illinois on Wednesday, February 28th.

If convicted, Hernandez faces $10,000 in fines or three-and-a-half years in prison.
