Milwaukee's Literacy Services gets needed boost

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Literacy Services received the Innovation Award, it is a $10,000 grant from AT&T.

"We’re honored to get the innovation award," Literacy Services Exec. Dir. India McCanse said.

The money will help grow the center.  Literacy Services is centered around adult education.  It helps adults with reading, learning English as a second language and earning their GED's.

"I'm surrounded by angels," student Arlette Bennett said.

Bennett has been coming to Literacy Services since May.  She earned her GED.

Bennett is excited for the growth that will come from the grant.

"It gives people a great opportunity and this place makes you believe in yourself," Bennett said.

The grant will focus on workforce development, particularly computer literacy.
