"As Seen on TV" product is made in Sussex

SUSSEX (WITI) -- Mr. Lid is an "As Seen on TV" product -- and it's made in Wisconsin!

"It`s got a great work ethic. It`s got great technical people, and that`s what you need to have a business like this," Mr. Lid inventor Keith Everson said.

Everson came up with the idea of attaching the lid to plastic storage containers a few years ago, and just put them out on the market in 2012.

"We made something that people really started to like. I was giving them to my friends and they really liked it. Then we decided let`s do this on a bigger scale," Everson said.

The 11-pack sets are mass produced at the company's plant called Sussex IM, which employs about 400 people.

"When you come over and learn, it`s very fast-moving but once you pick it up and you keep going, you`ll get it. It`s fun though. I like working over here," Sussex IM employee Iesha Gatlin said.

Along with Mr. Lid, Sussex IM produces all kinds of plastic products, including hand soap and sanitizer dispensers.

"One of our good customers is GOJO and they got a contract with Milwaukee Public Schools to put 8,000 of these dispensers in their schools," Everson said.

However, it's the Mr. Lid product that seems to be catching most people's attention as it's now in many stores and of course on TV.

"We`re getting into more and more retail but just in one pack. When we get to be on all of the store shelves then we`ll have to have more capacity and that`s more jobs," Everson said.

As Mr. Lid continues grow, already selling upwards of 20,000 boxes a week, it has no plans to leave Wisconsin.
