Small jet with landing gear trouble successfully lands

(CNN) -- The pilot of a light aircraft with landing gear problems successfully landed the place at St. Louis' main airport on Monday afternoon, March 4th.

The pilot was preparing to make an emergency landing at St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia, Illinois, airport officials said. But the plane was then diverted to Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

CNN affiliate KTVI said eight people were aboard the Learjet -- and the plane circled the St. Louis airport for a while to burn off jet fuel.

Ambulances and other emergency equipment were standing by, according to the airport.
