Contact 6: Booking a spring break getaway

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Those who are thinking of booking a spring break getaway for the whole family need to act fast! Time is running out to book flights and hotels -- especially for those hoping to snag a deal!

Easter is early this year, which means less time to book that spring break trip.

"This more compact travel season with this high demand, we typically see that the hotel rooms and the airfare seats book out sooner," CNN Orbitz Expert Jeanenne Tornatore said.

According to Orbitz, the number one spring break destination for families is Orlando, Florida -- home of Walt Disney World.

For those not looking to spend that kind of cash -- the Wisconsin Dells is another good option.

FOX6's Contact 6 found booking a room with water passes at Kalahari, Wilderness or Great Wolf Lodge room rates all about $100 cheaper the week after Easter Sunday -- compared to the week before.

Blue Harbor Resort in Sheboygan offers a $19.99 water park day rate. Country Springs Water Park in Pewaukee offers a $25 water park day rate.

With the tail end of winter weather sticking around, FOX6's Contact 6 says travelers should prepare for weather disruptions.

"Even if you're planning on heading to somewhere like a great warm weather destination, you want to prepare yourself for any connections that may cause you trouble and make sure that you have anything you really need for 24 hours packed with you in your carry-on bag," Tornatore said.

If the airline does lose a bag, there's a max payment of $3,300 bucks -- so don't pack expensive camera or computer gear. If you get bumped from a flight, and the airline reroutes you and you're more than two hours late, you can be compensated up to four times the value of your ticket.

The Department of Transportation requires airlines to provide information on how to file a complaint and the company must send a response in 60 days.
