Some in southeast Wisconsin dealing with minor flooding

SOUTHEAST WISCONSIN (WITI) -- Some in Kenosha County on Monday, March 11th were dealing with minor flooding.

In Twin Lakes, neighbors reported garages, yards and basements seeing flooding. Some were pumping water across the street and clearing out the snow from the culverts to keep the water running.

Meanwhile, in Sauk County, crews in Baraboo dealing with high water there offered free sand bags to those in need. They can be picked up at the West Baraboo Garage, across from Pierce's.

In Washington County, heavy rains created ponding, flooding and erosion.

Crews were called in over the weekend and were still working Monday to combat some of the water issues. Officials say the weekend rain and snow on the ground is creating a mess.

Washington County Sheriff's officials got several calls about localized flooding. The marsh in Allenton had a significant amount of high water, which nearly threatened the nearby bridge on County Road W.

The Highway Department focused on County Road H and Highland, where crews were staying on top of water that's encroaching on the road. The highway commissioner says it's not so much the standing water that is the problem.

"Realistically it's the water moving quickly along the roadway that creates erosion and washouts that we have to deal with and fix," the highway commissioner said.

So far, crews had only had to deal with one washout Monday, but to avoid another, crews cleared the area -- moving back some of the ditch line and plowing the snow, to give the water a place to flow. Then, the gravel will be repaired.

Crews will continue to be on call as the anticipated snow rolls through this week as well. The main reasons they are working ahead is because they did a lot of prep work over the weekend -- clearing out culverts.
