Hundreds turn out for Wyndham Airport Hotel liquidation sale

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Everything must go at the Wyndham Milwaukee Airport Hotel.  The liquidation sale started Thursday, March 14th and hundreds of people waited in line outside just to get through the doors.

“I camped out in my car.  I was actually here about 9 o’clock (Wednesday) night,” shopper Gregory Johnson said.

“Most of the items you see up here, we have 250-300 of every item,” Greg Hall from National Content Liquidators said.

From chairs, to plates, to irons and even treadmills, all of it went for at least half off.  It's the ideal sale for a bargain buyer.

“You're talking banquet equipment, kitchen equipment, things for your house, things for hotels.  Everything you see in a hotel, we have it,” Hall said.

“Towels are like $3, hand towels two for $3,” shopper Andrea Dunday said.

The hotel closed late last year.  A Los Angeles firm bought it and plans to tear it down, so 30,000 items from over 500 rooms must go.

“It’s way better than Black Friday,” Johnson said.

For him, the timing couldn't have been better.  Johnson’s opening a banquet hall in town next month, and this sale allowed him to save some needed cash.

“Thousands, trust me, thousands.  Like these coffee pots here, the original price is like $500 or $600.  They’re selling them for $65.  You can't beat that with a stick,” Johnson said.

From business owners to college students, there is something for everyone.

“I'm moving at the end of May and I'm looking for some new towels and kitchenware,” Dunday said.

While some shoppers say it's a welcoming sight, others admit it's a bittersweet goodbye to a place that's been around for more than 50 years.

“I think it's pretty cool.  I think it's pretty neat, but it's kind of sad in a way too, that it's going down,” shopper Brenda Kieper said.

The liquidation sale runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.  On Sunday, the sale will be open from Noon to 5 p.m.  It’ll run for 60 days or until everything is sold.
