Beyond the Game: Brewers relief pitcher Jim Henderson

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee Brewers relief pitcher Jim Henderson could have given up the game a long time ago, but giving up isn't part of his makeup.

Along with fellow reliever John Axford and infielder Taylor Green, Henderson was one of three Brewers on the Major League roster to represent his native Canada in the World Baseball Classic.

It was a high honor for the 6'5", 220 pound right-hander.

Life on the baseball diamond has been great for Henderson and greatly appreciated. After 10 years in the Minor Leagues and injuries too numerous to mention, Henderson broke through to become a solid option out of the bullpen for Manager Ron Roenicke.

Calgary-Alberta Canada isn't what you'd call a baseball hotbed, but Henderson had a great support system. So, when humble Henderson takes the mound, he isn't just pitching for himself and his team.

Henderson's father died of ALS when Henderson was just 13, but he left his son a true gift. Henderson says his father was a true inspiration, and hopes he is looking down on him and is proud of what Henderson has become.

Henderson has struggled a bit in Spring Training -- allowing four runs in three and one-third innings, but you can bet he will continue to work until he succeeds.
