Beyond the Game: Racine Horlick H.S. cheer and stunt team

RACINE (WITI) -- In February, the Racine Horlick High School cheer and stunt team, the Rebels, won their fifth state championship in the co-ed small division. But it is a far greater triumph that has left the team so strong.

Cary Robuck, the mother of Racine cheer and stunt team's Mariah Sturm, was killed in the shooting at the Azana Salon & Spa in October.

Following the horrific shooting and tremendous loss of a woman Mariah's teammates said was a huge supporter of the team -- Mariah's teammates came together and were there for Mariah in her time of need.

Cary Robuck is gone, but her spirit lives on in the hearts of the Horlick cheer and stunt team family. During this latest championship run, she was with them every step of the way.

Mariah will feel the pain of losing her mother long after the final cheers have faded away, but she'll always have sweet memories and the love and support of her coaches and teammates.

As for Mariah, she feels her mother's presence moment-by-moment, every day:

"I feel like she'd be proud of where I am today," Mariah Sturm said.
