Milwaukee woman arrested for OWI with four children in vehicle

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 24-year-old Keshia Spikes of Milwaukee was arrested Monday night, March 18th for operating while intoxicated with four children in the vehicle.

Spikes was stopped by officials around 11:45 p.m. on Sherman Boulevard near North Avenue for suspended plates. According to police, during the stop the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol from Spikes.

Spikes tested a .26 on the PBT, more than three times the legal limit.

Spikes had a 26-year-old female passenger and four children, ages two, four, six, and eight in the car. Two of the children were Spikes', and two were the passenger’s children.  Another adult picked up the passenger and her children at the scene.

Child Protective Services could not contact a family member of Spikes’ children and sent a case worker to pick them up at the patrol substation at about 4:00 a.m.

Spikes is being charged with operating while intoxicated with passenger under 16 years of age, a misdemeanor.  She faces up to six months imprisonment if convicted.

Spikes is also being held for a felony violation of probation stemming from a July 2011 case on child neglect and drug trafficking charges.

Michael Wisniewski was Spikes' landlord at an apartment near 53rd and Center when she was charged for child neglect and drug trafficking.

"Keshia Spikes lived here up until a year, year-and-a-half ago. I can't say too much, but I can say I suspected there might have been a little bit of drug activity. It's kind of unfortunate really. It's sad. Too bad," Wisniewski said.
