Charges filed against woman accused of driving drunk with kids

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Charges are now filed against Keshia Spikes of Milwaukee, a woman who is accused of driving drunk with four kids in the car.

Spikes was arrested Monday night, March 18th. She had been was stopped by officials around 11:45 p.m. on Sherman Boulevard near North Avenue for suspended plates. But according to police, during the stop, the deputy could smell a strong odor of alcohol from Spikes.

The criminal complaint against Spikes, the deputy said Spikes' eyes were "red and 'glassy' looking" and that her speech was slurred. The complaint says Spikes denied having anything to drink at first, then admitted drinking some wine.

The complaint says the deputy administered a series of field sobriety tests on Spikes. During the "walk and turn" test, she apparently stated, "I'm (expletive) up, just take me."

The deputy tested Spikes' breath with a portable testing device. The complaint says it showed her breath alcohol concentration was .26 -- or more than three times the legal limit for driving.

If convicted, Spikes faces up to six months in prison and $1,100 in fines.
