Victim in Mount Pleasant baseball bat beating thankful to be alive

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- A father and son are accused of viciously beating a 17-year-old boy with a baseball bat. The duo was arrested along with a teenager over the weekend.

Mount Pleasant police say they found the suspects after getting several calls into their crime stoppers line.

Meanwhile, the victim says he is thankful they are being held responsible.

"It feels good knowing they are behind bars and they actually got the people who did this to me," Joey Cataldo said.

Cataldo was appalled to learn a father and son were arrested for the crime.

"It's crazy just knowing that someone`s father would be a part of this and that they would want their kid to do this to other kids too," Cataldo said.

Police say 44-year-old George Schram and his 19-year-old son Kevin Schram, along with a 16-year-old chased down Cataldo and a group of boys riding in a Neon -- allegedly smashing the windows to get to the teens inside.

Cataldo was dragged out and beaten to the point of hospitalization.

"It`s like wiring stitched in my head right now. It's crazy. Just thankful to be here right now," Cataldo said.

Police say one of Cataldo's friends knew one of the suspects and the assault happened after a gathering outside of Schram's home.

"There`s several allegations that there was an iPod that was involved and taken by one of the parties and possible drug activity by one of the parties,"

"Just beef between my friends and their friends and I'm guessing that is what started them off," Cataldo said.

Unsure of what actually sparked the rage, Cataldo is vexed that he was brought into the argument and feels it's a miracle he is still alive.

"There's still a little blood on my brain right now. We still have to watch that and make sure it doesn`t get any bigger. I just want to make sure they get the punishment they deserve and hopefully they stay behind bars," Cataldo said.
