Milwaukee man cited for DUI after driving wrong way on I-794

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- 48-year-old Donald McGuire of Milwaukee was arrested Friday morning, March 29th for second-degree recklessly endangering safety and cited for a DUI, first offense. This, after driving the wrong-way on I-794 near Carferry Drive.

According to police, McGuire was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-794 near Carferry Drive just before 2 a.m. Multiple squads responded and dispatch advised that the driver had turned around to head in the correct direction.

A deputy stopped a vehicle he suspected was the wrong-way driver as it exited on Oklahoma Avenue at 2:03 a.m.

After police stopped McGuire they detected a strong odor of alcohol. McGuire refused to perform any field sobriety tests or PBT.

The deputy viewed video footage of the wrong-way driver and was able to identify the vehicle as the one operated by McGuire.

The second-degree recklessly endangering safety charge is a Class G Felony, punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
