Sandy Hook alum hosts fundraiser for school in Green Bay

GREEN BAY (WITI) -- A musician originally from Newtown, Connecticut hosted a fundraiser for Sandy Hook shooting victims in a Green Bay coffee shop.

Music filled a packed Harmony Cafe on Saturday afternoon, March 30th for the event.

The fundraiser featured a silent auction to raise money for families, survivors and first responders in Newtown.

John Mazzariello organized the event. He is a former Sandy Hook student who now lives in De Pere.

"It's an emotional day, much more so for them, in a lot of ways, and it's a good thing," Mazzariello said.

"We're glad we could be a part of it and I'd like to take the experience and the message back to Newtown," Rick Mazzariello said.

John Mazzariello's mother worked at Sandy Hook Elementary School for 25 years before she retired. She has been helping the Sandy Hook students adjust to their new school.
