Germantown police say suspicious package was bags of sand

GERMANTOWN (WITI) -- Germantown police on Monday, April 8th investigated a suspicious package near the southeast corner of Mequon Road and River Lane -- that ended up being bags of sand.

Police say around 4:42 p.m., a female individual contacted the Germantown Police Communications Center reporting a suspicious package at the southeast corner of Mequon Road and River Lane. Upon arrival, Germantown officers located two suspicious packages wrapped in black garbage bags and duct tape sitting on the ground near the southeast corner of the intersection.

The Germantown Police Department was assisted by the Germantown Fire Department, WI State Patrol, Washington County Sheriff, ATF, and Milwaukee County Sheriff EOD Unit. The roadway was shut down for approximately two hours during the investigation.

Milwaukee County Sheriff EOD Unit determined that the packages contained sand. Preliminary information indicates that these two bags of sand were possibly left at the intersection without permission by a local realty company to hold down signs.
