Kendrick Day faces multiple charges in Racine incident

RACINE (WITI) -- 30-year-old Kendrick Day faces multiple charges in connection with an incident which occurred in Racine on Saturday morning, April 6th.

Day is charged with misdemeanor battery, false imprisonment, operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent, fleeing a traffic officer causing damage to property, and second-degree recklessly endangering safety.

The complaint against Day indicates early on Saturday, April 6th, police were dispatched to a home on Washington Ave. in Racine. Day was apparently in the home owned by a woman. The complaint indicates Day "grabbed her by her arms and forced her into the living room and shoved her down on the sofa and stated 'if my baby ain't having me as a parent, she ain't having neither of us' and began yelling at the woman.

The complaint says Day then punched a "television screen with his fist, making his hand bleed." Day then apparently flicked the dripping blood on the woman and flicked a cigarette lighter hear her hair.  The woman was able to escape the house unharmed -- and screamed for help.

The complaint indicates Day then jumped into a minivan and later led police on a pursuit that reached speeds up to 70 miles an hour. After some time, Day struck another vehicle at 14th and Clark -- and his vehicle became disabled. He was then arrested by Racine police.

If convicted of the most serious charge, Day faces up to ten years in prison and $10,000 in fines. Day is due back in court on Thursday, April 18th for his preliminary hearing.
