Sheboygan Falls mayor, wife injured in crash Sunday evening

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY (WITI) -- The Sheboygan County Sheriff's Office has now identified the two individuals who died as a result of a two-vehicle traffic accident Sunday, April 7th near State Highway 32 and County Highway J.

The victims are identified as 81-year-old Suzanne Jackson and 61-year-old Lew Handley.

The crash occurred just before 7:00 p.m. Sunday, April 7th.

Sheboygan Falls' Mayor, 45-year-old Randy Meyer and his wife, 46-year-old Tammy Meyer were injured in the crash.

Officials say Handley was headed westbound on County Road J with Jackson as a front seat passenger. They were struck by a vehicle headed southbound on State Highway 32, operated by Tammy Meyer, with Randy Meyer in the front seat.

County Road J is controlled by a stop sign at State Highway 32.

The city's Police Chief, Steven Riffel says Mayor Meyer had just finished delivering a motivational message to the Howards Grove High School baseball team. Because he is blind, Mayor Meyer was not driving at the time of the crash.

Mark Weber, the Howards Grove High School baseball team's coach says the community is mourning the loss of two individuals in this crash.

"We are very sorry that this tragedy occurred. The city of Sheboygan Falls and the mayor, express our deepest sympathies to the family of Ms. Jackson and Mr. Handley -- for their loss," Riffel said.

Mayor Meyer remains in the hospital. His wife was released, but elected to stay at the hospital with her husband.

Officials shut down County Road J west of State Highway 32 to Meadowlark Road in the Town of Sheboygan Sunday night as the crash was investigated and cleaned up.
