MILWAUKEE (WITI) — Milwaukee County Clerk of Circuit Court John Barrett is warning of a jury duty hoax.

In a statement, Barrett says: “A prank from an on-line humor website involving two numbers from a 704 area code implies that a juror may be subject to a $500 fine or 30 days imprisonment, which is later revealed to be a hoax.

We encourage people not to pass this hoax along and to let people know that if they are given a telephone number with a 704 area code, that it is not from Milwaukee County and not Milwaukee County Jury Service, and individuals can feel free to ignore it.”

Barrett says this hoax is not related to the Milwaukee County Court System or the Clerk of Circuit Court Jury Management.
