Man arrested in Kenosha for OWI with child in the vehicle

KENOSHA (WITI) — Officials in Kenosha early Sunday, April 28th arrested 23-year-old Devonta Smith of Chicago for his first OWI. Smith reportedly had a child in the vehicle at the time of his arrest.

Smith was stopped on I-94 eastbound at State Highway 165 just after 1:00 a.m.

A State Trooper stopped Smith for a cracked right tail lamp. During the traffic stop the Trooper observed several indicators of drug activity. Smith admitted to smoking marijuana two hours prior to driving. A small amount of marijuana was discovered during a search of Smith.

Smith was arrested for OWI drug related and possession of THC, and was cited for operating without a license.

Present in the vehicle was a 16-year-old passenger. Smith was taken to the hospital where he agreed to submit a blood sample. Both Smith and the 16-year-old were turned over to a responsible party.
