Six-year-old donates nearly 16 inches of hair to Locks of Love

WEST BEND (WITI) -- Six-and-a-half year-old Skylar Dalton has shown just how big her heart is -- as she donated over a foot of hair to Locks of Love.

Skylar had been waiting for the day she would be able to donate her hair for over two years. She said she got the idea when she saw a little girl while out with her mother one day.

"We happened to notice a little girl was sick and she did not have any hair so Skylar whispered to me and had asked 'why doesn`t that little girl have any hair' and I said 'because she is sick,'" Skylar's mother, Crystal Dalton said.

"I felt like I wanted to give her my hair," Skylar said.

On Sunday, May 5th, Skylar sat inside Signature Studios and donated nearly 16 inches to Locks of Love -- an organization that creates hair pieces for disadvantaged children suffering from hair loss due to medical conditions. Skylar's donation will change lives.

Skylar's mother says she is so proud of her daughter, knowing the kind gesture will make a big impact on the recipient by helping bolster self-esteem and confidence.

"I think it`s a wonderful thing. I think it`s a great for them to be able to feel better about themselves," Crystal Dalton said.

The pair knows firsthand the impact illnesses like cancer can have. Skylar's decision to trim her hair was also inspired by family.

"I had lost my mother and sister to a cancerous brain tumor, so I actually had helped my sister shave her head," Crystal Dalton said.

As Skylar shipped off her ponytail to help those longing for it, she is already looking forward to a new do.

"Short hair with some bowties maybe sometimes," Skylar said.

Skylar donated her hair on her grandfather's birthday. He recently passed away, and Skylar donated her locks in his honor.
