South Shore Frolics Parade returns after one-year hiatus

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee’s historic South Shore Frolic Parade will return as part of the 2013 South Shore Frolics event. The parade, which will run on South Kinnickinnic Ave. at 11 a.m on Saturday, July 13, highlights this year’s 64th annual South Shore Frolics. This free neighborhood festival will take place July 12-14, 2013 in South Shore Park in Bay View.

A fundraising campaign with a gift from We Energies helped bring the historic Frolic parade back. The parade is the longest in Milwaukee County and has traditionally drawn crowds in excess of 20,000 people along its two-mile route.

While a We Energies foundation grant was the anchor donation to enable this year’s parade, 18 individuals, 14 businesses, the Bay View BID, the Bay View Neighborhood Association and the Bay View Community Fund all contributed to restoring the 2013 South Shore Frolic parade.

The Frolic Parade begins on South Kinnickinnic Ave. near E. Smith St. and proceeds south on Kinnickinnic Ave. before turning northeast on South Ellen St., and finally east on East Nock St. to South Shore Park in Bay View. In the past, the Frolic Parade has included 75 to 100 parade unites and has lasted 90 minutes.
