Mother cited after truck slams into tree, injuring three in Waukesha

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- The woman driving a truck that struck a tree and left that woman and her two children seriously injured on Saturday, May 4th has been cited. Officials say she should have never been behind the wheel.

The 30-year-old woman, whom police are not identifying at this time, has received a citation for Operating While Suspended, as well as Failure to Have Control -- according to police. Police say the woman had a suspended license at the time of the crash.

Police are awaiting blood results to determine whether any controlled substances were a factor in this crash.

A seven-year-old boy remains in serious condition at Children's Hospital. His four-year-old sister was released from the hospital on Wednesday -- after suffering a broken leg in the crash.

The children’s mother was also hospitalized after the crash. Officials said all three suffered life-threatening injuries.

"I know when we first heard about the accident my biggest concern was the kids. The little boy is a fighter. He's been awake on and off. It's good to see at least one of the kids home," a neighbor of the family told FOX6 News.

Neighbors say the truck clipped a parked car before slamming into the tree.

“She was going pretty fast and she was swerving. I thought she was going to take out the light pole,” neighbor Bob Stark said.

Now, the mother (and driver) is cited in the crash -- and it's not the first time.

Court records show in December of 2011, the woman was pulled over by police. At the time, the mother was driving on a suspended driver's license, an expired registration, and had failed to prove she had insurance.

The ticket shows it was her third time being caught with a suspended license.

The County Clerk says the woman has yet to pay the more than $500 in fines.

"Obviously she was speeding to do that much damage to the truck. She is always yelling at the kids.  Something needs to be done," a neighbor told FOX6 News.

Neighbors are praying for a full recovery by the children, as they wait and wonder whether criminal charges will be filed.

It remains unclear what caused the mother to lose control of the truck. She remains in the hospital in satisfactory condition.
