Former Deaconess employees protest at owner's home

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Dozens of former employees of Deaconess Home Health protested outside the apartment of the agency's owner Saturday, May 11th.

The employees lost their jobs last week after the company told them it had lost state funding. Workers haven't been paid in weeks.

"We're still taking care of our patients because we love them, and we will keep doing it, but yet we're fighting for our rights," said Lydia DeLapaz.

Some workers have filed complaints with the state, hoping to pressure Deaconess to pay them.

"We have elderly residents that we take care of and that's all we want. We want to take care and we want justice for ourselves," said Gregory Marks.

The state says it is investigating the company for possible fraud.
