Dousman mom receives Mother's Day surprise from Army daughter

DOUSMAN (WITI) -- On this Mother's Day, some military members serving overseas are able to connect with their mothers via technology. FOX6 News was there when a Dousman mother got a special surprise from her daughter, who is serving in Afghanistan.

"I am so blessed to have three just, wonderful children," Peggy Dunn said.

Dunn is now an empty nester, and this Mother's Day was a little different from years past.

"It's hard to know where she is at. This is the first place she's been that I can't go and visit," Dunn said.

Dunn's daughter, 1st Lieutenant Erin Venturelli has been serving in Afghanistan since she volunteered to join the Army last September.

"She is in medical support services so she makes sure that everybody has got the supplies they need," Dunn said.

Dunn hasn't seen her daughter since she left, but was able to connect with her on Mother's Day, as Dunn was surprised with a Mother's Day video message. Dunn sat down with HER mom to watch.

"It's awesome. It's overwhelming," Dunn said.

In the video, Erin thanked her mother for years of care, love and endless support. However, Dunn says she is the lucky one.

"I am very proud of her, and all the people who are serving and giving up their time," Dunn said.

Dunn says she knows sometimes it's hard for members of the military to keep in touch, but she says more than anything, she is grateful for a chance to see her daughter on Mother's Day.

"It's just awesome to be able to have something like this, and to be able to have a keepsake," Dunn said.
