Amtrak train headed to Milwaukee strikes car in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- An Amtrak spokesman has confirmed an Amtrak train struck a vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Mount Pleasant, and one person was killed -- a 29-year-old Racine man.

The Amtrak spokesman says the incident occurred around 2:30 p.m.

The Amtrak spokesman says a train heading northbound from Chicago to Milwaukee when a vehicle headed southbound on the tracks was struck.

The train that struck the vehicle did not suffer any substantial damage, but this incident was expected to cause delays of other trains that run on the stretch between Milwaukee and Chicago.

Officials say 115 people were aboard the train at the time of the incident.
