Woman found dead in West Allis apartment hallway

WEST ALLIS (WITI) -- West Allis police are investigating the death of a 63-year-old woman found in an apartment building hallway on Friday afternoon, May 17th.

The woman is a resident of the building near 75th and Washington St. where she was found deceased.

"I'm not surprised," said neighbor Sonia Flores. "I've heard it was a halfway house and I usually just see people sitting out there smoking cigarettes or just hanging."

A man who lives in the building tells FOX6 News that it is a transitional home.

Transitional Living Services in Milwaukee issued the following statement:

Our immediate thoughts are with those who have been adversely affected by this incident. We are cooperating with authorities who are investigating the incident and we are still learning more about this ourselves. Because of privacy laws, we cannot comment further at this time. We will keep you informed, to the extent we can, as we learn more.

"Pretty much every month there's ambulances coming. We always know they're going to that house," says Flores.

This isn't the first time the police have investigated a death at this intersection. A man was fatally stabbed in or near the same apartments back in 2008.

Members of the West Allis Police Department are being helped by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office in this case. The victim's body was turned over to the medical examiner to determine the cause of death.
