New charges for man charged in fatal crash involving Sheriff's squad

WAUKESHA (WITI)  — Ihor Sahan, a St. Francis man facing homicide charges for a crash involving a Waukesha County Sheriff's squad car that killed his friend, now faces additional charges.

In court on Wednesday, May 22nd, three additional charges were filed against Sahan, including another count of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, and two counts of causing injury/operating while under the influence (first).

Sahan now faces six total charges.

Investigators say Sahan was driving drunk when he slammed into a Waukesha County Sheriff’s squad car on I-94 near Sunnyslope.

“The accident caused the striking vehicle to go up in flames, and caused enough damage to the squad that the passenger side door was left inoperable,” Deputy Inspector James Gumm said.

Two deputies, identified as Bryan Skaar and Patrick Sykes jumped into action to pull Sahan and his passenger, 17-year-old Ryan Petri from their vehicle.

Petri was listed in critical condition after the crash, and died at the hospital on November 3rd.

The Sheriff’s deputies were injured as a result of the crash.

An initial appearance for Sahan on the new charges is set for May 30th.
