More Red Cross volunteers head to Oklahoma

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Two Red Cross volunteers left Milwaukee, headed out to help in hard-hit Oklahoma.

"I`m expecting the unexpected," volunteer Bob Phelps said.

Phelps is on his thirteenth deployment with the American Red Cross.  He'll be manning an Emergency Response Vehicle or ERV.

"We`ll be going out and feeding people.  We`ll take out suppers and lunches," Phelps said.   "Sometimes we`ll be carrying out some cleaning supplies and other material that will help the victims out there."

Twenty-eight volunteers from across the Wisconsin are giving support in Oklahoma.  They will be there for three weeks, working twelve-hour days, with a threat of severe weather always in the back of their minds.

"Hopefully, I will not run into what a few of our people ran into a couple of days ago, which was a tornado coming down on them," Phelps said.

Even more volunteers from Southeast Wisconsin could be headed to Oklahoma in the next few weeks.
