Law enforcement, public officials take part in 2013 Torch Run

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- Gov. Walker along with hundreds of law enforcement officials ran in the 2013 Law Enforcement Torch Run in Waukesha Thursday, June 6th.

The Torch Run is the largest grass-roots fundraising program and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics.

"We just want to come out and let these kids, these Olympians know how special they are and we support them," Waukesha Police Deputy Chief Dennis Angle said.

The Final Leg originates from more than 30 locations across the state on this relay. They will all converge at the University of Wisconsin -Stevens Point on Thursday, June 6 for the SOWI State Summer Games Opening Ceremonies.

Athletes say the runs serves as inspiration.

"I always thought being different was not so cool, but now when I see all these people, I feel amazing," Special Olympian Zechariah Tietz said.

This is the 27th year the Torch Run has been happening.  The athletes will run the final leg carrying the ignited torch to the caldron and kick off the games.
