Two Brown Deer M.S. students accused of sharing nude pics

BROWN DEER (WITI) -- Investigators believe two 14-year-old Brown Deer Middle School students shared nude photos through Facebook last year -- and they believe this year, those images were shared with others. Some are using this latest case as a means of teaching children about the consequences that come with using technology the wrong way.

"You don't ever want your kids going through this stuff. It's a very, very difficult lesson to learn," a parent, who did not wish to be identified, told FOX6 News.

The parental warnings and vigilance regarding childrens' use of technology may not be enough for some children to avoid finding themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Keyboards and touch screens can pose legal risks if used the wrong way.

FOX6 News spoke with a parent who said years ago, his then 14-year-old daughter texted private cell phone pictures with her boyfriend -- but those images didn't remain private for long.

"I believe six of them had their cell phones confiscated. There was a single felony charge," that parent told FOX6 News.

Special Agent Eric Szatkowski with the Wisconsin DOJ says charging decisions are up to prosecutors, and made on a case-by-case basis.

"Before you know it, those pictures are going to be available on the internet, and they get distributed again, and again, and again -- to predators, pedophiles and perverts all over the world," Szatkowski said.

In one father's daughter's case, prosecutors eliminated a felony charge against the girl because she kept her criminal record clean for a year.

"It's a hard lesson. It's a tough lesson, but a good lesson learned," the parent told FOX6 News.

As for the Brown Deer case, there is no word yet on whether charges will be filed. The Brown Deer School District has said it is fully cooperating with police.
