Monday is 19th anniversary of O.J. Simpson chase

(CNN) -- 19 years ago Monday, June 17th, many were glued to their TVs as O.J. Simpson led police on an hour-long chase around Los Angeles in a white Ford Bronco.

The actor and former NFL player was charged in the murders of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend, Ronald Goldman.

Instead of turning himself in, Simpson fled in the SUV with a friend at the wheel.

They gave up after about an hour, and Simpson was arrested.

Simpson was later acquitted of double murder after a lengthy trial.

In 2007, Simpson was arrested in connection with a robbery at a Las Vegas hotel room. He was later convicted and sentenced to up to 33 years in prison.

Simpson has appealed for a new trial.
