Child born deaf hears his dad say: "Daddy Loves You"
(CNN) -- A child born completely deaf is getting a chance to hear the sound of a bird singing for the very first time -- all thanks to a device that looks like a sweat band.
Until recently, three-year-old Grayson Clamp had no idea what most things sounded like.
Now, watching him hear is a thrill for his parents, Nicole and Len Clamp.
Grayson's device needs some fine tuning, as his speech is delayed -- so there is still work to do.
His device uses a microchip on his brain to compute sound. The installation was a groundbreaking procedure at UNC Hospitals.
After the procedure, Grayson was able to hear his dad say: "Daddy loves you," for the very first time.
