SDC will not pursue appeal of decision to drop fed. funds

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Social Development Commission (SDC) Board of Commissioners has announced it has decided not to pursue an appeal of a decision by the Regional Head Start office that dropped the agency from the group of finalists for future operation of the program in Milwaukee County.

Following a special board meeting, Commissioners voted to acknowledge there is no formal appeals process for SDC to use to contest the decision to drop the agency from the list of four finalists for the five year federal grant.

The Board also endorsed a letter sent by Vice Chair Annie Wacker to the Regional Head Start office expressing disappointment at the decision.

The SDC Board further reaffirmed support for the three remaining agencies, Milwaukee Public Schools, the Next Door Foundation, and the Council for the Spanish Speaking.

Board Chair Gerard Randall echoed other Commissioners in saying the agency will fully support whichever agency or agencies receive the Head Start contract “for the good of the community”.

He added that SDC will work with those programs to ensure that the transition for the children and families of Head Start will be as smooth as possible.
