FREDONIA (WITI) -- A group of Ozaukee County farmers hosted the 29th annual Breakfast on the Farm Saturday morning, June 22nd.

The group not only aims to provide a satisfying meal, they want to familiarize attendees with the source of their food.

"Our main goal for the Breakfast on the Farm every year is to educate the public on agriculture here in Ozaukee County," said Jean Opitz, Breakfast on the Farm Chairperson.

The event is sponsored by the Ozaukee County Dairy Promotion and served up at Fredonia's Sandy Loam Dairy. Over 300 volunteers help enlighten patrons about farming practices.

"We want to make sure that everyone understands that your food comes from a farm and not from the store, and that there's still 69 working dairies here in the county that produce food for you," said Opitz.

Along with the all-you-can-eat pancakes and delicious scrambled eggs and ham, there is a kid zone where children can get a hands-on lesson in life on the farm.

"Great food and they'll tell you a lot about farm animals," said Dave Hubing. "I learn so much even though I worked on a farm when I was a kid. When I come to these things, yes, farming's just changed so much."

Ozaukee County's Breakfast on the Farm has raised almost $40,000 for area food pantries and more than $7,000 for scholarship assistance in the past five years.
