6.1-magnitude quake injures 10, damages 17 homes in Indonesia
(CNN) — A 6.1-magnitude earthquake rattled Indonesia on Tuesday, killing six people, injuring more than 200 and damaging hundreds of homes, officials said.
Most of the deaths occurred in the hard-hit district of Bener Meriah. Two other people were reported missing, according to Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, a spokesman for the country’s National Disaster Management Agency.
People ran out of their homes when the quake struck on the Island of Sumatra, and many residents were hesitant to return for fear of aftershocks, Nugroho said.
