Some vendors say U.S. Bank fireworks night is their biggest

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Thousands were expected to pack Milwaukee's Lakefront on Wednesday evening, July 3rd for the annual U.S. Bank Fireworks show! The fireworks show is a big night for Milwaukee, and also, a big night for business.

FOX6 News spoke with some vendors setting up along Milwaukee's Lakefront on Wednesday, who said of all the events in Milwaukee, the fireworks show is their biggest night!

Shawn Devooght sells toys through his company, Milwaukee-based "Event Toyz." The business began at small parades, but Devooght's business has grown into the biggest toy vendor along the Lakefront.

Devooght unloaded an entire truck load's worth of merchandise to supply Veteran's Park. He says he would have been in big trouble if Wednesday night was a rain out!

Devooght says he had to pay some big fees to be able to sell his toys on the Lakefront, and says all of that money goes back to Milwaukee County's parks -- ensuring that the fireworks show is a free event for families.

"It's great seeing the kids playing with the stuff, and everybody is having a good time," Devooght said.

Jessica Elrick traveled from Champaign, Illinois to work this part-time gig.

"Dude -- I get to play with toys all day. This is a dream job. I am absolutely excited. You make children happy. I make a little money. Parents aren't pulling out their hair because they have something to do," Elrick said.
