MOUNT MORRIS (WITI) — The body of a 20-year-old UW-Madison student was recovered from Mount Morris Lake just after 2 o’clock Friday morning, July 5th.

Bruce Beckley of Milwaukee had been swimming with friends at the beach in the Town Park when he went missing shortly before 1 a.m.

Waushara County Sheriff’s Deputies, along with members of the Wild Rose, Redgranite, and Neshkoro Fire Departments searched the lake and surrounding area before locating Beckley under water. Authorities attempted to revive the man, but were unsuccessful.

Officials say the group was swimming after posted hours and alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor in the incident.

The Waushara County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone using area lakes for recreation to use caution and obey all safety regulations.
