Attic fire causes damage to Sheboygan apartment building

SHEBOYGAN (WITI) -- Fire caused significant damage to more than half of a ten-unit apartment building in Sheboygan on Monday morning, July 8th.

Emergency responders were first called to the scene on Broughton Dr. just after 2 a.m. They immediately began a search for the source of the fire. The crews found extensive flames and smoke in the attic -- and because the attic stretched the entire length of the building, there was damage to several apartments.

No residents of the building were hurt. But a firefighter from Kohler apparently stepped off a rafter and fell. Officials say he suffered slight pain to his ribs but refused to be taken to a hospital.

Firefighters from Kohler and Cedar Grove assisted with this fire. A cause has yet to be determined.

The Red Cross was on site to assist two of the families affected by the fire. The other residents made their own arrangements.
