Brewers Wives stop by the Milwaukee Public Library to read to kids

BAY VIEW (WITI) -- The library is the perfect place to read or listen to a good book -- and wives of Milwaukee Brewers players stopped by the Milwaukee Public Library on Monday, July 8th to read to children.

"'So far my favorite is the baseball bat book," seven-year-old Super Reader Mabel Ciepluch said.

Reading a baseball book to children is quite fitting for the wives of Milwaukee Brewers!

"The kids just sit there in awe of what's going to come next and I just like watching their faces and I like hoping that they're going to get interested in reading from it. It's just a joy," Patty Iorg, the wife of Brewers' first base coach Garth Iorg said.

"I think it`s wonderful because you can be animated and the kids get excited about it. They get into the books, we get into the books. It`s fun," Karen Roenicke, the wife of Brewers' manager Ron Roenicke said.

The two spent time reading to children to promote the Milwaukee Public Library's Super Reader program.

"If a child doesn't read during the summer months, they can lose two to three months of skills that they learned in the previous school year, so then when they start school in September they`re going to be behind," says Milwaukee Public Library Youth Services Coordinator Kelly Hughbanks.

The Super Reader program is put on by the Milwaukee Public Library to encourage kids to read during summer break.

Just reading four to six books over the summer can prevent children from losing what they learned throughout the school year.

Patty and Karen agree that whether you're a kid or an adult, it's never too late to pick up a good book!

Kids can sign up to become a Super Reader at any Milwaukee Public Library.
