66-year-old wrong way driver arrested on Highway 794

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials on Wednesday night, July 17th arrested a 66-year-old wrong way driver on Highway 794 near Layton Avenue.

A Sheriff's deputy caught up to Jerome Carel's vehicle at the intersection of Highway 794 and Pennsylvania Avenue just before midnight.

Sheriff's officials say Carel had driven the wrong way from Oklahoma Avenue.

Sheriff's officials say Carel had two or three beers at Roma's Bakery and Italian Deli.

He was arrested for recklessly endangering safety (2nd degree) and cited for OWI first offense.

Carel was taken to the hospital for a blood draw.

Sheriff's officials say there were no crashes or injuries involved in this incident.
