MPD District 7 warning residents about increase in burglaries

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police in District 7 are warning residents of an increase in burglaries occurring in several areas within the district.

Police say many of these incidents involve suspects accessing homes through open and/or unlocked doors and windows — even while residents are home cutting the grass or in their backyards.

Police say there has been an increase in the following burglaries in the following areas:

Police are urging citizens to make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked at all times when practical, understanding that criminals are searching for opportunities to gain easy access to your property.

Officials also advise that residents secure all air conditioning units that are affixed to windows -- so it is not easily pushed in.

District 7 police are urging residents to call police if they see any suspicious individuals walking down the street carrying, pushing, or carting various kinds of property of value.
