HAWS to assist with transition as Animal Rescue Center closes

WAUKESHA (WITI) -- HAWS, the Humane Animal Welfare Society of Waukesha County, has been chosen by the Milwaukee Animal Rescue Center to assist with the transition as the Greenfield center ceases operations.

Milwaukee ARC began in 2005, with start-up assistance from HAWS, as an adoption program for animals from the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission. The beginning of MADACC’s own in-house adoptions, plus greater support from other area shelters, has diminished the need for ARC’s services. ARC leadership has concluded that the costs associated with both maintaining a property and providing care for the animals in their program are prohibitive.

Noted HAWS’ Executive Director, Lynn Olenik: “We are sad to say goodbye to this great organization! We have enjoyed a wonderful partnership with ARC, working together to help so many animals in our community. In 2013 alone, almost 40 cats originally from HAWS found shelter and new loving homes through ARC, while we in turn were able to assist them with spay-neuter services and animal care supplies.”
