Miller Park plays host to Milwaukee's "Color Run" Sunday

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Miller Park played host to Milwaukee's "Color Run" on Sunday, July 28th. The "Color Run," also known as the "Happiest 5K on the Planet" is a unique paint race that's less about coming in first, and more about having fun!

The "Color Run" is a 5K, untimed race in which thousands are doused from head to toe in colored powder, crafted out of dyed corn starch, at each kilometer.

The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Color Festival,” using more colored powder.

With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow:

Now the single largest event series in the nation, the "Color Run" is exploding since its debut event in January of 2012 and will grow from over 50 events and 600,000 participants in 2012, to over 100 events and over a million participants in 2013.

Milwaukee's Race Director, Kari Dawson says the "Color Run" was inspired by an Indian religious festival.

"It's a wellness event where you can come out, and you have license to be crazy and silly, and no one's gonna judge you," Dawson said.

Sunday's race at Miller Park featured about 7,000 registered runners. The race was scheduled after August 11th's already scheduled race sold out, with over 10,000 registered!

"Wisconsin loves the "Color Run," so as long as they want it, we'll keep bringing it back!" Dawson said.

The "Color Run" plans to donate a portion of the money collected from the event to the Brewers Community Foundation, and about a half-dozen other Milwaukee-area organizations.
