Milwaukee man accused of stealing cell phones, selling them

MADISON (WITI) -- Keith Smith of Milwaukee now faces five charges of theft for allegedly stealing cell phones from his victims and then attempting to sell them on Craiglist.

State Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen announced on Saturday, July 27th that a criminal complaint was filed against Smith.

According to the criminal complaint, Smith committed five thefts during which he approached female victims and stole their cell phones from their hands. Smith did this from July 7, 2013, until his apprehension on July 20, 2013, according to the complaint. The complaint indicates Smith ultimately admitted that he was stealing the phones and selling them on Craigslist.

The charges are the result of an investigation by the City of Milwaukee Police Department.

Smith is expected in court for his preliminary hearing on Monday, August 12th.
