Milw. family featured in documentary on texting while driving

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- A Milwaukee family's story is taking the internet by storm. In less than one week, they've gotten more than one million hits on a new documentary (seen below) highlighting their tragic story regarding texting and driving -- a story they hope will save lives.

The pivotal day in Xzavier Davis-Bildo's life was October 10th, 2010. On that day, the little boy known as "X" let go of his big sister's hand and began to cross the street near their Milwaukee home.

The five-year-old who had dreams of becoming a football player was struck by a young woman who was texting while driving.

"She was not only speeding in the school zone, she had also run the stop sign because she was texting," X's sister, Aurie said.

The accident left X paralyzed from the diaphragm down.

"I`m told that the text was 'I`m on my way.'  Did she make it?  Did she get to where she was going on time?  That would be my question for her," X's mom, Valetta said.

Now eight years old, --- has partial use of his hands, and uses a ventilator to breathe.

"There are times when the pain is so bad, I can't breathe," X's mother, Valetta said.

In the documentary "From One Second To The Next" (seen below), his mom recalls her dream to one day watch her son play high school sports.

"He would have been an excellent athlete I looked forward to being in the stands and screaming," X's mom, Valetta said.

The documentary premiered in Hollywood last Thursday -- and has also been posted to YouTube.

With the film's release, X and his mom now have a new mission.

"He's starting to understand and he's starting to get the impact in his mind that 'hey, I'm not getting out of this chair and if this don't have to happen to another five-year-old little kid, I'm gonna help my momma tell people don't text and drive,'" Valetta said.
