Graffiti vandal(s) target Racine County GOP headquarters

RACINE COUNTY (WITI) -- Graffiti vandals have targeted the GOP headquarters in Racine County -- two months after the Republican Party moved its offices to the Racine County location.

The Racine County GOP Office's Field Director, Pat Garrett found a message scrawled in black permanent marker reading: "Horrible People Work Here." In another location, the word "Criminal" was written over Gov. Scott Walker's name.

"I`m not a horrible person. My volunteers certainly aren`t horrible people. We`re not going to let someone from the left throw name calling and distract us from the great things Gov. Walker has been doing for the state. I imagine they were targeting the Republican governor of our state," Garrett said.

Garrett filed a police report after discovering the graffiti on Tuesday morning, August 20th, before spending hours scrubbing the vandalism from the window.

Garrett says he is not aware of any surveillance cameras in the parking lot that may have captured the suspect in the act, and the GOP office appears to be the only target.

The Racine County GOP Office is hosting dozens of volunteers each week, all hard at work, getting a jump-start on Gov. Walker's re-election campaign.

Garrett believes this is a scare tactic, to try to keep workers from coming to the building.

"We have a lot of volunteers coming in - safety could be a concern.  I`m here late at night sometimes.  It`s a potential distraction from all the positive things we are doing in this office," Garrett said.

Mount Pleasant Police say the graffiti was already removed from the windows by the time they arrived to fill out their report.

Volunteers say they don't remember anything like this happening at their old location during the Act 10 debates and recall election last year.
