Medical Examiner's report released after body pulled from river

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office has released its report on the body pulled from the Milwaukee River on Tuesday, August 20th.

The Medical Examiner's report indicates 35-year-old Darnell Thelen of Milwaukee was drinking with his girlfriend on Monday evening, before they walked down by the river. The two fell into the water, and Thelen's girlfriend was pulled from the water.

Thelen's body was found floating in the river on Tuesday, August 20th.

The Medical Examiner's report says the two met up at the Grand Avenue Club in downtown Milwaukee before walking to the Pick 'N Save store on Ogden Avenue, where they purchased two bottles of Pinot Grigio and walked to the Milwaukee Public Market, where they drank both bottles of wine.

The two then walked down to the Milwaukee River, and stopped at the pier at Water and Chicago streets.

Thelen's girlfriend told officials they sat on a seat on the dock, but said she could not remember anything else until someone pulled her from the water, according to the Medical Examiner's report.

Thelen's girlfriend told officials the man had a history of schizophrenia, but said he was taking medications and was stable.
